The Mill Restoration Program
During the 1999/2000 season, Watson’s Mill Manotick Inc. embarked on an ambitious restoration program to rebuild the roof, window sills, portions of some walls and the foundations.
The work took over three years and was partly funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The MILLenium Fund raised over $200,000 in all.
Part of the project involved repairing cracks in the window sills. (shown below). The process involved removing the existing sills, drilling holes in the ends, inserting rods which were then epoxied to repair the sill before replacing them. Much work completed by stone masons.
Probably the most time-consuming stage of the restoration was the excavation of the foundations, parging them and the installation of a new tile drain to improve the flow of rain water away from the mill.
